Yesterday I read that Dean Jones has passed away.
While not exactly a household name Jones was - apart from the car - the protagonist in Disney's Herbie movies about a Volkswagen Beetle with personality.
That rang a bell. Wasn't there a spanking scene in one of those movies? No, but I still wasn't too far off.
Due to Herbie's popularity - and the fact that a German car was the star - the German movie industry quickly came up with their own version.
They called it Dudu:

They also changed one aspect in a very German way. Dudu wasn't some sort of magically thinking car, but a car stuffed with all sorts of technical gadgets. The proto- K.I.T.T. I guess![:-)]()
